March 21, 1954 Houston Chronicle

This article in the Houston Chronicle describes 6 model homes to be built in the new subdivision of Glenbrook Valley. These homes currently exist on Glenview Drive.
The article reads as follows:

'Six Model Homes will be featured in Glenbrook Valley on Gulf Freeway'

Plans have been set in motion for the public showing in Glenbrook Valley Addition on the Gulf Freeway of six luxury-type homes in the $25,000 to $35,000 price range, it was announced Saturday.

Officials of Bayou City Properties, Inc., developers of the first major project of high-priced homes in Houston's East End, announced the model homes will be open on Labor Day weekend and will be open through September.

Fred McManis Jr., Vice-President of the company, said the five builders and several of the area's leading suppliers of building materials will join in creating distinctive homes featuring the latest developments in the home-building industry.

Featured by Magazine

Mr. McManis himself will build a home which will be featured in the September issue of Better Homes & Gardens Magazine. Called 'the home for all America,' this home at 7923 Glenview Drive has a versatile floor plan which will serve the growing family. A central Bryant heating and air conditioning unit will maintain climate control year 'round.

Another home which will recieve national recognition will be built by W.G. Holbrook. Colonial in style, this home at 7915 Glenview Drive will be featured in the September issue of Living for Young Homemakers. It will be an all-gas home with gas range, built-in oven, refrigerator, dryer and a Servel year-'round air-conditioning-heating unit. One of its prime features is a large family room which leads to an outdoor living area.

Ranch-Type Home

A modern, ranch style home at 7911 Glenview is being planned by Murray hartt, builder. This brick and redwood home will be fully air-conditioned, and features a centrally located fireplace and barbeque pit which separates the living-dining area from the outdoor dining terrace.

An all-electric home at 7927 Glenview Drive will be built by Ralph Lowe of the Lowe Electric Company. The emphasis in this home will be on electrical living, with the latest developments in light conditioning, planned wiring, electric kitchen, electric air conditioning, and some new electric products which will be shown for the first time in Houston.

Modern Plumbing Features

The most modern features in better plumbing will be featured in the home at 7931 Glenview Drive now being planned by J.M. Ballard. Mr. Ballard is president of the Ballard Plumbing Company. He has several startling innovations in mind not only for plumbing fixtures, but also their installation.

Mr. McManis will also build the sixth house, at 7919 Glenview Drive, featuring products supplied by the Buie Building Material Company. These products include modern awning windows, aluminum reflective insulation and sliding glass doors which open onto a shaded patio and wooded slope.

Winding Streets

All homesites are oversize, averaging 100 feet in frontage. Glenbrook Valley also features paved, winding streets with curbing, street lights, storm and sanitary sewers, as well as all utilities. Amply wooded, it is in the gently sloping area which borders Simms Bayou.

Paving has been completed throughout the addition and water lines will have been laid by the end of next week, Mr. McManis said. Initial home construction will begin in a few days, he added.
